A Refined Winnetka Home Renovation
New wall treatments, architectural detailing, and furnishings bring texture, warmth, and cohesion to this North Shore home.
This Winnetka project updated several key living spaces including the foyer, living room, guest bedroom, and primary bedroom. The goal was to create a cohesive interior that balanced refined materials with comfortable, everyday functionality.
The renovation introduced new lighting throughout the home, custom millwork details, updated wall finishes, and carefully selected furnishings that connect each space while allowing every room to maintain its own character.
Project Overview
Location: Winnetka, Illinois
Project Type: Whole home interior renovation and furnishing
Scope: Interior design, finish selections, lighting design, millwork detailing, window treatments, and furnishing
The homeowners wanted to refresh multiple areas of the home while creating a more unified design language across rooms. Updates focused on lighting, architectural details, and layered finishes that bring warmth and depth to each space.
Key project elements included:
- Updated foyer furnishings and lighting
- Wall treatments and custom window coverings in the living room
- Refined finishes and millwork in the powder bathroom
- New rugs and furnishings for the family room
- Wallpaper, carpet, and drapery in the guest bedroom
- A fully reworked primary bedroom with custom millwork, lighting, and built-ins
Together these updates created a more cohesive interior while maintaining the comfort and scale appropriate for a Winnetka home.
An Elegant Foyer Welcomes You Inside
The foyer establishes the tone for the rest of the home through updated lighting, furnishings, and layered materials.
Lighting throughout the entry and surrounding spaces was upgraded with warmer LEDs and smart, dimmable controls, allowing the homeowners to adjust the atmosphere throughout the day. Central to the space, a sculptural overhead fixture is a statement piece. Beneath it, a round entry table anchors the space and introduces a natural gathering point when entering the home.
Living Room Design and Furnishings
The living room was designed to feel relaxed while introducing additional texture and architectural detail.
Wallpaper adds subtle movement across the walls, providing visual interest without overwhelming the space, while crown molding was added to strengthen the architectural character of the room and better connect it with the surrounding spaces.
Custom flat roman shades were installed on the windows, giving the room a clean and tailored look while maintaining privacy and light control.
An area rug anchors the seating arrangement and introduces additional softness and texture to the space.
The overall effect is a living room that feels layered and comfortable while remaining visually calm.
Primary Bedroom Millwork, Custom Built-Ins + Timeless Furnishings
The primary bedroom was one of the most extensively redesigned spaces in the home.
Custom millwork on a wall and the ceiling detailing add architectural elements.
A custom upholstered bed serves as a focal point, paired with bedside pendant lighting that frees up surface space on the nightstands.
Built-in cabinetry provides storage and creates a dedicated area for a television while maintaining a clean visual profile.
Window treatments include ripplefold drapery installed on a track system, allowing the homeowners to control light while maintaining a tailored appearance.
Additional design details extend into the bedroom vestibule and closet areas, where wallpaper introduces texture and continuity with the rest of the suite.
Powder Bathroom Architectural Detailing + Custom Features
This custom bathroom renovation introduces deeper color and refined detailing.
Wainscoting and crown molding were added to give the room additional architectural structure. The trim and molding were painted in a deep blue tone, creating contrast against the existing wall covering above.
A custom vanity provides storage while maintaining a clean and tailored profile appropriate for the room’s scale.
Warm metal finishes across fixtures and hardware introduce contrast while tying into other finishes used throughout the home.
Lighting was updated with wall-mounted sconces and a mirror centered above the vanity.
Guest Bedroom
The guest bedroom features wallpaper in shades of blue in a floral pattern. On the floor, wool carpet creates a cozy feel underfoot. Floor-to-ceiling drapery panels soften the windows and bring vertical movement to the room. On the ceiling, a flush-mount ceiling fixture made of textured glass and metal hangs.
Together these elements create a layered, comfortable guest space that feels intentional without being overly formal.
